Which Silhouette Is Right For You?

When you’re planning a wedding, there are a ton of things you need to plan: where are you going to have your wedding? How many people are going to be there? What will your first song be? Cocktail hour or no cocktail hour? The one thing brides always seem to know is what they’re dress will look like. For many brides, they’ve been dreaming about what their dress will look like since they were young. Of course, styles change, silhouettes go in and out of fashion, and maybe you change your mind!

What doesn’t change is how overwhelming your first dress appointment can be. How do you know what styles to try? What if the style you’ve been dreaming of doesn’t look like you imagined?

The good news is that your bridal boutique consultant is there to help you make the vision you’ve been dreaming of come true.

So how do you come to your appointment prepped and ready to find the dress of your dreams? Our advice is to prep…and then throw away the prep! Try one dress from each silhouette just to be sure you’re not ruling out a great style for you.

Let’s start with the highlights of the 5 most popular styles!

Ball Gown

The number one feature of a ball gown is a very full skirt. Most ball gowns feature a fitted bodice and are cinched at the natural waistline. The fullness of this dress helps highlight your waistline and can help balance out any figure! The full, bell-shaped skirt is perfect for brides who have dreamed of looking like a princess straight out of a fairy tale.

Sheath

This gown really helps highlight your shape because it’s a form fitting style that follows the body’s natural line. The lines help lengthen and look ethereal and natural.

A-Line:

This style is narrow at the top and then softly flares out, gradually, like an “A.” This style looks great on every bride and is one of the most possible skirt silhouettes. It also allows for a ton of movement, which is great for brides who are going to be on the dance floor all night!

Mermaid:

This glamorous style has a tapered, curve-hugging skirt that follows the natural line of your waist, hips, and thighs, with a distinctive flair at the knees. It really highlights hourglass shapes, and can create a sultry feel for brides who want to go glam!

Fit N’ Flare:

This style is fitted through the body and often gets confused with the Mermaid style. Unlike mermaid, fit n’ flare isn’t as restrictive and has a gentle flare past the hips. It’s flattering on a lot of different body types and is perfect for the bride who envisioned a mermaid style but wants the ability to move a little more.

No matter what, you need to feel like you. If you go into your appointment with an open mind, your consultant will be there to help you make the best decision for your day.
